Welcoming Farida Aliwa as Natural Justice’s Executive Director

By Natural Justice

2 October 2023, Nairobi: The Board of Natural Justice is pleased to announce Farida Aliwa as the new Executive Director, succeeding Pooven Moodley who proudly and devotedly served Natural Justice for five years.

Farida’s career has taken her around the world with various organisations such as the United Nations, Save the Children and most recently with the Center for Reproductive Rights. Farida is passionate about inclusive and equitable societies, and comes with a wealth of knowledge, and expertise working to advance environmental, gender and social justice across many parts of Africa. She has a background in International Human Rights Law, Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction, with over 15 years of experience in senior and executive leadership posts working on national, regional, and global policies and programmes that advance human rights, especially the rights of women, young people, and those living in low-income communities.

“I am excited to join an organisation that is shifting power to locally-led and alternative solutions, and I’m excited to be part of an organisation that is fearless and works as a collective to truly empower Indigenous and local communities, young people and women – in the pursuit of justice for people and planet,” said Farida. “I am known for my passion, curiosity, entrepreneurial and positive spirit. I hope to bring this spirit to the team to inspire and build critical partnerships to propel and achieve our vision.”

“The combination of her legal background, extensive experience, and feminist leadership style makes Farida a great fit for Natural Justice. I have no doubt that Natural Justice, our partners and community allies will be in very capable hands under her leadership,” said Loretta Feris, Natural Justice Board Chair.

A very warm welcome our new ED. We look forward to collaborating with Farida to deliver Natural Justice’s new strategy, aptly titled Justice for People and Planet.
