AFIEGO and partners demand release of AFIEGO’s Buliisa District field officer

We’re saddened to learn that Maxwell Atuhura, a member of Africa Institute for Energy Governance (AFIEGO) – our partners under the umbrella body Inclusive Green Economy Network – East Africa (IGEN-EA) -, and an Italian journalist, Federica Marsi, were arrested on Tuesday 25 May 2021 in Buliisa, in the oil region of Uganda.

In a statement released by AFIEGO, Mr. Atuhura was arrested yesterday on May 25, 2021, and was detained at the Buliisa Central Police Station (CPS). He spent the night at the police station. The charges against him hadn’t been communicated by the time the press statement was issued. Instead, Mr. Atuhura was today May 26, 2021, transferred to Hoima, where the regional police headquarters are located. Please read the full statement by AFIEGO here.
