Case studies by Natural Justice and allied organisations from Kenya, Nigeria, and Mozambique
Natural Justice’s Framework for JET pathways in Africa are built on the Three P’s: Principles, Policies and Practicalities.
It calls for Indigenous Peoples and local communities to be centred in decision making, with justice principles translated into policy and law and supported by practical, community-level action. The key question is whether environmental and energy justice principles and policies will be met in ways that address well-being, ecological sustainability, and genuine local benefit, not merely carbon reduction. Drawing on these case studies and the tools of the 3 P’s framework, the conclusion calls for rights-based action to deliver a JET, with communities’ needs at the centre.
