Submission: UNEP draft policy on Environmental Defenders

Natural Justice submitted comments to UNEP’s Draft Policy on the Protection of Environmental Defenders. The objective of this policy is to promote greater protection for individuals and groups who are defending their environmental rights. The main idea was to ensure that we push for greater accessibility to UNEP’s response mechanisms by frontline defenders at the grassroots levels especially for women and indigenous peoples. We also highlighted the need to provide long-term responses to incidents reported such as putting pressure on States to make legal and policy reforms.
