Zenani Mhlungu is an environmental lawyer and social justice advocate, currently the Programme Officer for the Defending Rights Programme at Natural Justice’s Southern Africa hub. Based in Johannesburg, she is committed to empowering communities and ensuring that land rights and environmental protections are upheld throughout the region.
Zenani holds an LLB from the University of Johannesburg and a Master’s in Environmental Law from the University of Cape Town. Her expertise covers administrative justice, land rights, and international law, positioning her as a key advocate for environmental and human rights.
Her career spans various roles, including consulting on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance and governance initiatives. She has helped organizations align their policies with sustainable practices. Zenani also worked at Legal Aid South Africa and at the EleXions Agency.
Driven by a personal commitment to environmental justice, Zenani believes in the transformative power of law, especially in protecting those most vulnerable to environmental degradation and displacement.
