Michael joined Natural Justice in August 2022 as the Programme Manager. He was called to the Nigerian Bar as a barrister and solicitor of the supreme court of Nigeria in January 2001. He was inspired by the mobilizations and campaigns of his people in Nigeria’s oil producing delta region to study law in order to orchestrate change from a position of knowledge. He has focused his energies on protecting the environment and democratizing development utilizing the instrumentality of the law.
Michael worked with a strong team of lawyers at Environmental Rights Action Nigeria and together they got the Nigerian court to declare the flaring of gas in Nigeria illegal and also provided legal services to communities across Nigeria’s delta region, including the celebrated case in the Hague, Netherlands between three local communities in the Delta and Shell.
