Allan is a Senior Programme Officer in the Affirming Rights programmatic stream, based in the Southern Africa Hub. He returned to Natural Justice in January 2020, having previously worked as a Programme Officer for the Extractive and Infrastructure and Climate Change programmes, as well as a consultant on various Natural Justice projects.
He joined the Defending Rights stream as a Programme Officer in January 2021. In this role, his primary focus centered on supporting strategic initiatives to halt numerous oil and gas industry projects in Southern Africa. Additionally, he played a role in leveraging legal frameworks and processes to champion the protection of community rights and environmental integrity in instances where these rights and the environmental fabric faced imminent threats.
More recently, he transitioned to the Affirming Rights stream, as a Senior Programme Officer.
Allan is an admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa passionate about human rights, and how these fundamental rights are protected, enforced and promoted within underprivileged and resource-restricted community contexts. He is avidly interested in the interplay between socio-economic rights and environmental justice as they affect communities and individuals.
Allan holds a Bachelors and Masters of Law degree from the University of Cape Town, where he specialised in Human Rights Law. In line with his passion for human rights, socio-economic rights and environmental justice, Allan joined Natural Justice in order to strengthen a number of strategic programmes that seek to empower the communities that Natural Justice represents.
