Aliou Faye worked for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) for 28 years as a Country Representative in Burkina Faso, Mali, and Senegal and as the Regional Director for West and Africa from 2017 to 2023.
As a Senegalese nature conservation expert, he has demonstrated strong skills in program and institutional management at IUCN, combined with great abilities to develop partnerships, negotiate and mobilize funds and lead the development of new initiatives.
Faye holds a higher diploma in environmental sciences and three Master’s degrees in public administration, geography, climatology, and range management. Before joining IUCN, he worked for the Ministry of Environment of Senegal. He strongly supported the Senegalese government in preparing and implementing national plans and strategies for forests, biodiversity, and climate change.
