South Africa’s eastern coastline has quickly become a hot oil and gas industry property. People living in Richards Bay and south Durban have, for years, been directly impacted by mines and factories dotting the landscape, historic polluting industrial fossil fuel infrastructure, and a growing fossil fuel industry – posing health and environmental threats. Some communities and activists have begun to push back and are considering alternative energy sources. These are their views on the Just Energy Transition. There is a growing call for Energy Justice.
