Senior Programme Officer: Standing with Communities

Sherelee Odayar joined Natural Justice in October 2021. She is the Senior Programme Officer in the Standing with Communities programmatic stream in the Southern Africa Hub.

For two years she worked as a Community Environmental Legal Officer Coordinator for the hub, working closely with communities in South Africa and Namibia.

In 2023 she was appointed as a Senior Programme Officer, to further enhance the scope of Natural Justice’s community-based work across the organisation.  

Sherelee is from Durban, South Africa, and has a BSc (Honours) in Environmental Science from the University of South Africa and a BSocSci in Geography and Environmental Management from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal. She has interned at the eThekwini Municipality under the waste management sector. From there, she worked at the South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) as the Oil and Gas and Energy project officer.

She has worked extensively on the “No to offshore Oil and Gas” campaign, promoting healthy oceans and sustainable livelihoods, as well working to promote the rights of subsistence fishers in Kwa-Zulu Natal. Through SDCEA, Sherelee has worked with many groups across Africa on environmental justice, climate change and lobbying the extractive industry.
